Volunteering during COVID looks a little different. We work on a case-by-case basis and take into consideration the safety of the child, family, placement, and volunteer when it comes to making face-to-face visits. The requirement for making at least face-to-face visits with the child is currently waived in most cases. The core work of advocating for the best interest of the child has not changed. You will still maintain contact with the child and others involved in the child's life and case to keep the court informed and to make recommendations.
Approximately 3 hours per week.
Training is conducted after review of the application and an initial interview. In response to COVID, training will be conducted in groups using an "online self-study" curriculum with 6 modules. The reading and content is completed on your own, and then video group discussions will be hosted after completing the homework to discuss, answer questions, and check for understanding. The specific dates and times of the training will be established when we have sufficient applications to form the next group or cohort. Initial training takes 30 hours to complete, including homework, online modules, and group "video" discussions.
